What is the difference between Medium and Medium-Hard Professional reeds?
What is the difference between Medium and Medium-Hard Professional reeds?
Our Professional reeds are made from carefully selected, higher-density cane, usually from 10.3–10.5 mm diameter tubes. They are designed for advanced players and professionals who need stability, projection, refined response, and a rich tone colour.
Medium Professional reeds are made from slightly more flexible cane, based on flexibility testing. They offer a lighter feel, easier response, and greater flexibility, making them an excellent choice for solo playing, chamber music, and situations where colour and nuance are especially important.
Medium-Hard Professional reeds provide more resistance, stability, and projection. They are especially suitable for symphony and opera orchestra playing, where a stronger reed can offer greater support, focus, and reliability.
What is the difference between Beginner and Intermediate Student reeds?
What is the difference between Beginner and Intermediate Student reeds?
Our Student reeds are designed to make playing easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable for developing oboists.
Beginner reeds are made from medium-density cane with a slightly larger diameter. They are lighter, easier to blow, and require less embouchure strength, making them ideal for young players and beginners.
Intermediate reeds offer a little more resistance and are intended for students with a stronger embouchure and more developed air support. They still remain lighter and easier to play than Professional reeds, while offering more stability and control.
