The idea behind oboe-reeds.com is simple: to make the oboist’s life easier and to bring more comfort, confidence, and pleasure into everyday playing.

I know very well from my own experience how frustrating it can be when a reed does not respond the way it should. A reed that is unstable, heavy, or simply not well balanced can quickly take away the joy of playing and make the player feel limited instead of free.

My goal is to help oboists find reeds that support their playing, open their sound, and allow them to focus on music rather than constantly fighting with the reed.

My name is Peter Kovács, and I am a professional oboist and reed maker from the heart of Slovakia

I have been playing the oboe for more than two decades, and my passion for this instrument naturally led me into the world of reed making.

Since 2012, I have been Principal Oboist of the National Opera Banská Bystrica, and I play on Marigaux M2 and Marigaux 901 oboes.

I began making reeds over 25 years ago, during my studies at the Conservatory, and continued to develop this craft through further studies and orchestral playing. Over the years, I have gained a deep understanding of reed making through experience, careful experimentation, specialized literature, and exchanging ideas with oboists from around the world.

These experiences have shaped my approach, and reed making has become a lifelong passion. I continue to learn, refine, and improve my work every day.

I specialize in reeds with European-style scraping, focusing on response, stability, flexibility, intonation, projection, and a rich, colorful sound. My reeds are crafted to meet the needs of both students and professional oboists.

Each reed is carefully and precisely handmade to offer reliable playability and musical comfort. Whether you are preparing for a concert, an audition, or your daily practice, my goal is to help you find a reed that supports your individual playing style.
